Curchorem to Assolda, a nightmare to motorists, pedestrians

QUEPEM: The commute between Curchorem and Assolda, a distance of 3 kms, has become a nightmare not only for motorists but also the pedestrians who fail to identify the potholes when roads are inundated by water.

“It has been nearly 4 to 5 years that the people have been going through a nightmare as the entire stretch has been completely worn out making the road untraceable, especially from Hodar to Bobdemol at Assolada panchayat area” claimed Assolda locals.

“Apart from the motorists who have been struggling to negotiate the road, several residents too find it difficult as the roadside is untraceable. Dust flying due to the dilapidated condition of the road has further added to our woes,” they added.

Dr Guru Naik, a resident from Kudchade who travels daily through this route to Margao, said despite repeated complaints the concerned authorities have failed to come out with a permanent solution.

“The officials carry out temporary pothole filling work, but once the rains lash the potholes reappear. This shows the shoddy work by the officials. For the last three years, the condition of internal roads has only got worse and politicians only give assurances,” Naik said.

Naik further said that if hot mixing of road cannot solve the pothole issue then the PWD should construct a concrete road at this stretch which will give a permanent solution.
