QUEPEM: With the State imposed 15 days curfew commenced from Sunday, Curchorem market vendors showed obedience to the government’s restrictions by shutting down their shutters by afternoon.

Migrant labourers, mostly from Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, were also seeing with their backpacks waiting for trains to get back to their respective State.

The Curchorem Market Association had already taken decision to voluntarily close the market much before the State government’s official curfew to prevent further escalation of COVID cases, wherein the shopkeepers supported.

“The public went into a panic mode to buy the groceries before the implementation of curfew. Now people should behave in a responsible way to cooperate, to remain at home and follow COVID protocols to break the chain of lethal COVID infection raging in Curchorem in particular and the State in general,” said President Rocha Pereira.

Curchorem Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor James Fernandes said, “After much cajoling and suggestive pressures from the party, the Opposition parties and NGOs, the Chief Minister announced curfew. Due to the blunder of Chief Minister and pressures from vested interests of colleagues in the Cabinet of keeping the borders open in the month of December, January and February, the Goans had to pay a heavy price with increased cases of COVID infections and unprecedented deaths due to lack of preparedness of the health sector under the government.”
