Curfew extended; positivity rate drops below 5%

Salons, outdoor sports complexes to open; Shops to remain open till 6 pm

PANJIM: The ongoing State Level curfew has been extended once again by a week’s time and with another set of relaxations, even as for the first time in three months the the daily Covid test positivity rate has dropped to below 5 per cent.

“The State Level curfew will be extended till 7 am, 12 July 2021. Shops can remain open from 7 am to 6 pm. Salon and outdoor sports complexes/stadiums may also open,” Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant tweeted on Friday.

Last week on June 26, the CM had announced that the curfew was being extended till July 5.

Over the last week, several associations of various types of businesses had appealed for lifting of restrictions and allowing them to restart. The salon and gents barbers had also demanded the same. 

On the other hand, for the first time in three months the positivity rate had breached the 50 per cent figure in May, came to below 5 per cent. 

On Friday, there were 183 new Covid cases, while two deaths were reported and 285 persons recovered. In all 162 persons were placed under home isolation, 21 patients were hospitalised and 29 persons were discharged from various private hospitals. The total active cases have now dropped down to 2174.
