Curti drain turns into dumping ground for waste, carcasses

Locals forced to cover their faces while commuting along the service road due to the stench emanating from the drain; want the authorities to take action against the culprits; call for installing CCTV cameras to maintain a strict vigil in the area

PONDA: The storm water drain located near the Sports Complex at Curti has turned into a dumping ground for all kinds of waste including domestic and plastic besides carcasses of animals such as cats and dogs causing the entire area to stink.

The water from the drain located at the underpass finally flows into the main drain  at Ponda. The stench emanating from the drain  has caused nuisance as locals have to cover their faces while commuting along the service road.

The locals have demanded that the authorities concerned should take action against those involved in dumping of waste and have called for installing CCTV cameras to maintain a strict vigil in the area.

The villagers of Kavlem and Bandora, who depend mainly on agriculture, are compelled to use this polluted water for agriculture. To make matters worse, the locals are suffering from several health issues when using this polluted water for their paddy crops.
