PONDA: The Curti-Khandepar gram sabha on Sunday passed resolutions opposing sewerage treatment plant (STP) and two mobile towers coming up on in private lands in the village.
Housing Board Colony residents who stopped sewerage pipeline laying work on Saturday attended the meeting in large numbers and opposed the proposed STP in their locality.
Claiming that the STP is coming up in residential area — between Housing Board Colony and JC Nagar, the majority of the villagers demanded that the panchayat issue notice to sewerage officials directing them to laying 400 mm dia sewerage pipeline in Curti Housing Board area.
However, the villagers clarified that they were not against sewerage plant, but did not want the same in residential area, because they fear that it may cause unbearable stench after it goes into operation. The gram sabha also passed a resolution revoking the resolution passed by the previous panchayat body in 2014 approving an STP at Curti.
Sarpanch Rukma Khandeparkar said that her panchayat body accepted the decision of the gram sabha to revoke the approval granted for the STP.
The gram sabha also passed a resolution opposing two mobile towers coming up in residential area. The villagers contend that since there are already many mobile towers in the village along the national highway, they didn’t want more mobile towers.
Meanwhile, the villagers complained to the panchayat about the garbage menace prevailing in some parts of Curti and the sarpanch assured to look into the matter.
