PONDA: Complaining that the village youth are sidelined by the industries in providing jobs, Curti-Khandepar villagers demanded to implement 75 per cent job reservation at the Curti-Khandepar Village Panchayat gram sabha held under Chairmanship of Sarpanch Gurudas Khedekar, on Sunday.

The villagers said that village youth are sidelined for jobs in the industries operating under the Curti-Khandepar Panchayat jurisdiction.

The gram sabha passed a resolution demanding to implement 75 per cent job reservation to the local youth in industries operating in the panchayat jurisdiction.

The villagers also discussed stray cattle and health issues, heavy traffic plying on old Khandepar Bridge, streetlights, construction of bandara on Khandepar River and expenditure on garbage management.

During the gram sabha, the villagers pointed out that several new units are coming up in the panchayat area. However, the village youth are sidelined while migrants are easily getting the jobs.

They said that several stray cattle are injured in the accident and demanded to solve the issue with proper care and treatment to the injured.

The villagers also demanded to take action against the dumping of garbage into Khandepar River from the bridge and to install CCTV cameras at the essential places.

A villager Sandeep Parkar demanded that the panchayat should stop wasting huge amount of money on clearing garbage from the panchayat area and instead should give this responsibility to Ponda Municipal Council (PMC).

He said, “In 2007, the PMC had given undertaking in court that it will lift garbage of the panchayat while setting up its garbage treatment plant in Curti-Khandepar Panchayat area.”
