Curti locals fear culvert meant for light motor vehicles may collapse

PONDA: The locals of Curti, Ponda and Khandepar have raised apprehensions that the culvert meant for light motor vehicles may collapse any moment on account of heavy traffic flow.

Viraj Sapre, a local resident said, “For reconstructing the main culvert at Curti- Khandepar the existing one has been demolished and from this month onwards the traffic from the highway has been diverted towards Curti- Khandepar from the internal road leading to housing board society where the culvert meant for light motor vehicles is located near Hedgevar School.”

The culvert was constructed in 2002 and “Entry For Light Vehicles Only” signboard was installed.

Sapre said, “However following the diversion of traffic from highway, this culvert is now used by heavy vehicles including tankers, trucks and buses to proceed to Khandepar and Ponda.”

“The authorities should inspect this culvert and inform the public whether it is fit for heavy vehicles to prevent any untoward incident,” he added.
