PONDA: Curti locals on Monday demanded with the government to clear the dangerous scrapyard operating by the side of National Highway on Curti- Ponda service road.
In a complaint to the PWD, Deputy Collector, panchayat and other concerned authorities, the locals mentioned that within the setback area of service road of national highway in Curti-Khandepar jurisdiction, the scrapyard is engaged in dismantling of scrap vehicles such as trucks, which are cut with help of gas cutting machines, cylinders and in case of any accident it may claim life of the innocents.
It also stated the names of the four scrapyard dealers. These scrapyard dealers are dealing with the vehicles and other combustible material, which are likely to cause the risk of fire, and are operating just close to the side shoulder of service road.
“They are also burning plastic material. Some are operating close to electricity pole and lines,” states the complaint.
Based on the complaint of the locals, Ponda Fire Station Officer has asked the scrapyard dealers to produce valid documents/NOCs from various departments and safety provision to prevent fire.
