PONDA: In a bizarre incident, a goods truck parked along the slope at Curti-Keri, suddenly moved and rammed into a roadside electric pole plunging the entire area into darkness.
It is learnt that the Maharashtra registration truck loaded with goods which was parked along the slope at Curti Kerya road near Amigos Hotel today suddenly moved downwards and rammed into an electric pole, which later crashed onto another pole thereby plunging the entire area into darkness.
Luckily, there was no one along the busy road when incident took place.
However, later traffic was paralysed for an hour. The Electricity Department fined the owner truck Rs 16,700 for damaging the poles and power lines at Curti. Ponda Police conducted panchanama.
It may be recalled that the locals of Curti have been frequently demanding a ban on the parking of trucks along the roadside as it has often led to accidents. They had also raised the issue several times at the gram sabha and to the RTO and Deputy Collector. The locals alleged that no action has been taken by the authorities including the Curti Khandepar Panchayat.
