MARGAO: The meeting called to hear the grievances from the aggrieved persons raising objections pertaining to re-draft Biodiversity Heritage Site notification of Curtorim is most likely to be postponed to January 18.
However, aggrieved farmers and citizens have expressed high hopes that their pleas will be heard and the right decision will be taken before declaring Curtorim as Biodiversity Heritage site.
It may be recalled that after objections being raised by farmers and citizens, Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) had fixed January 16 as the date to hold a hearing in the Curtorim panchayat hall.
Now, Curtorim sarpanch Alexinho da Silva in his letter to the GSBB has requested that the meeting be rescheduled.
Meanwhile, speaking to O Heraldo, Curtorim resident Oswald Fernandes expressed high hopes that the objections raised by the farmers will be taken into consideration before finalising the draft to declare Curtorim as Biodiversity Heritage site.
“At the meeting held on January 3, all stakeholders were not called, however, GSBB was kind enough to hold a meeting and hear the grievances,” he stated.
He said that the farmers and citizens will put forth their objections and ask for more clarity on the issue.
“It has been brought to our notice that the documentation of the said proposal is also not maintained properly at the panchayat level and it is finding difficult to get the required information on the said proposal,” Fernandes said.
