Margao: The bio-diversity sites may finally be notified in Curtorim. The survey and study have been completed but it is learnt that the entire process has been held up due to petty objections.
The village has been waiting for the notification of its bio-diversity heritage sites for the last two years. However, the Bio-Diversity Board has decided to have a final hearing on this front and would notify the heritage sites soon.
Member Secretary of Goa State Bio Diversity Board Pradip Sarmokadam said, “After the Code of Conduct, we will hold final hearing and notify these sites.”
Explaining the reason for the delay, Member Secretary said, “There have been objections filed by some individuals, which has stalled the process. We can’t delay the process any further. This exercise was undertaken to conserve and preserve the biodiversity sites of Curtorim”.
According to the Curtorim Bio Diversity Management Committee Chairman, they along with the team of experts have identified 19 springs, 6 lakes, 6 khazans and 7 wells and other sites which need immediate protection. The panchayat was assured financial help to protect these sites.
