Curtorim delegation to recommend Saligao type plant for Sonsoddo

PANJIM: Satisfied with the state-of the art technology of Saligao waste
treatment plant, the Curtorim delegation said it will recommend a similar plant
for Sonsoddo and surrounding areas.

A delegation led by Curtorim panch J Santan Rodrigues and Cuncolim
Union president Jopseph Monteiro visited the Saligao plant to apprise
themselves with the technology used.

“Entire Goa knows what is the situation of garbage at Sonsoddo and
South Goa. Since we are close to the Sonsoddo plant and our MLA has recommended
bio-remedition like Saligao we came for a study,” Rodrigues said.

He said the delegation was satisfied with the technology and would like
a similar plant as envisaged by the government at Curchorem or Sonsoddo so that
it takes care of South Goa garbage.

Monteiro stated that in Curtorim the stench of garbage at Sonsoddo is
unbearable and groundwater is getting contaminated due to the leachate in the
monsoon. “A similar plant will help solve the issue,” he said.

The inspection was carried out in presence of Calangute MLA Michael
Lobo who recommended two more such plants to take care of the State’s garbage. “With
the plant much of the garbage issue has been sorted out and I feel if similar
plants come up at Baiguinim and Curchorem it will solve the problems,” Lobo
said.

He said that the garbage corporation announced by the CM needs to take
shape quickly so that the issue is sorted out.
