MARGAO: Members of the Curtorim Gram Sabha (GS) raised objections to the proposed site for the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed in the village.
Villagers said the present location at the eco-sensitive ‘Fulham Dongor’ is problematic and they have demanded that the MRF shed be relocated and set up in the land belonging to the Leprosy Hospital in Curtorim. They pointed out that they had written letters to the authorities concerned. It may be recalled that the villagers have objected to the plans of the government on that land, which they want to be used for the village itself.
Elsewhere, the gram sabha members praised Sarpanch Caetano Hilario for having written to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), following which, the PMO had directed the Ministry of Water Resources and River Development to send an urgent reply to the petitioner, pertaining to the approval given to Karnataka’s DPR for their Mhadei diversion project.
The locals also demanded that the Major District Road (MDR) 39 be shifted to MDR 54 and they questioned why such big roads of 25 metres are required in the village and that it would lead to wastage of land. The budget was also passed with some corrections.
