The South Goa sessions court on Friday sentenced a resident of Curtorim to five years imprisonment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Additional sessions Judge P V Kamat also directed accused Minguel Fernandes to pay a fine of Rs 500 in connection with the death of Reshma Redkar two years ago.
The court had earlier held the accused guilty under section 304-A of the IPC instead of murder. The incident had taken place on May 15, 2008 when the accused had allegedly hit the victim on her head with a wooden rib in her shop.
The prosecution led by Public prosecutor Pramod Hede had examined 12 witnesses in support of its case.
