MARGAO: Claiming that the farmers in Goa are facing hardships due to unavailability of fertilisers, Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday urged the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to make alternate arrangements at the earliest.
In the letter addressed to Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister, Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) which is manufacturing urea and non urea products in Goa needs to pull up its socks and provide excellent customer service to farmers.
He said PPL is failing on three parameters as its documentation works takes snail’s time, documentation process is very slow and sluggish, and even after making payment there is no delivery of fertilizer, and hence farmers are facing hardships.
“Farmers who are coming at Curtorim Service Cooperative Ltd are go back disappointed as supply of fertilizers is becoming a herculean task due insensitivity of the PPL. Importantly, Curtorim Service Cooperative society is providing ceaseless service to benefit farmers including supplying fertilizer to farmers,” said the MLA.
He further said that PPL has employed a taxing and tedious process related to the procedure of license transferring and other documents. And the worst part is farmers who are knocking the doors of Curtorim Service Cooperative Ltd return home empty handed.
It is understood that before the acquisition of the plant of Zuari Agro Chemicals Ltd (ZACL) by PPL, farmers of Goa did not face problems when it came to supply of fertilisers.
Reginaldo has urged the government to make arrangements of an alternative fertiliser company which would supply quality fertilisers to the farmers at an economical rate.
