MARGAO: Sticking to their stand against the installation of mobile towers, the villagers of Curtorim at a meeting held on Monday decided not to allow the erection of the tower even in the Fondegal-Curtorim area, citing that it is also a residential locality.
It is pertinent to note that the Curtorim panchayat had initially issued an NOC to the mobile network company to erect their tower at Fondegal, however, upon strong opposition from local residents, the location was shifted to Virabhat, close to the government school premises.
“We are once again making it clear that people are not against mobile network towers, but don’t want it in the vicinity of any highly populated area. They can erect the tower even on the mountain or in open spaces with lesser population,” said local man Anthony Peixoto.
“We will take up this matter to officials at the highest level. We have even planned to have a meeting with the Chief Minister,” said Peixoto, adding that the villagers were upset with the local MLA for not supporting them fully in their fight against the installation of mobile towers in residential areas, be it Virabhat or Fondegal.
