MARGAO: Curtorim Agro-Biodiversity (CAB) team members have resolved to request Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) for rectification of Curtorim Biodiversity Heritage Site notification as per the proposal.
J. Santano Rodrigues, Chairman of CAB held a meeting in this regard on Sunday and deliberated on the issue. CAB also wants Curtorim panchayat to call a meeting of Curtorim Biodiversity Committee and further discuss further.
“We are happy that finally declaring the Curtorim Village as a Biodiversity Heritage Site has reached its final stage. However we also want the GSBB to rectify the current notification and include other important landmark areas of Curtorim in the draft notification,” said Rodrigues.
GSBB has only six lakes including Ralloi Lake, Agdi Lake, Sonbem Lake, Mai Tollem, Colomba Tollem and Gud Tollem, besides field channels. There is no mention of Khazan areas, Mangroves and agro-ecosystem in the draft, said J. Santan Rodrigues.
The government has issued a notification setting a deadline of 60 days to submit the suggestions and objections in this regard.
As per the notification published, nearly six lakh square meters of area, mostly Lakes and field channels are included in the biodiversity heritage site.
