Curtorim’s pristine image tarnished as garbage piles up at Vagullem

MARGAO: The sight and smell of garbage strewn along the roadside at Vagullem on Mugalli road in Curtorim has prompted citizens to demand immediate action from authorities. This situation has not only resulted in an environmental hazard but also created significant health risks for residents. The issue is further exacerbated by stray cattle and dogs consuming the garbage, leaving it scattered in the locality.

Local resident Peter Fernandes expressed his dismay, stating that the prevailing conditions have tarnished the once-pristine image of the village. “We have been raising this issue on several occasions for the last several years, but concerned authorities failed to address it,” he said. “Cattle eating the waste has added more to the mess.” Fernandes also blamed residents for continuing to dump their waste on the secluded road despite warnings.

Roshni Vernekar, another resident, emphasised the need for authorities to develop an effective plan for maintaining vigilance at the site. “Merely blaming the authorities would not solve the issue, as this is a man-made health hazard,” Vernekar pointed out,  demanding the imposition of heavy fines on those caught dumping waste.

Residents are urging the implementation of proper waste management systems and raising awareness about the importance of keeping the environment clean.
