Curtorkars vow to rid village of plastic

MARGAO: The Curtorim gram sabha on Sunday approved a Rs 81 lakh budget for the financial year 2015-16, even as the Panchayat laid bare before the meeting its annual plan, which amongst other things, seeks to make Curtorim village plastic free.

MARGAO: The Curtorim gram sabha on Sunday approved a Rs 81 lakh budget for the financial year 2015-16, even as the Panchayat laid bare before the meeting its annual plan, which amongst other things, seeks to make Curtorim village plastic free.
The issue over the controversial hotel project and the housing project also figured at the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Rosy Paes.
When the gram sabha raised the question of the controversial hotel project, the chair replied saying that the Panchayat has already issued show cause notice to the hotel promoter based on the resolution adopted by the gram sabha. The Panchayat also told the members that it will contest the appeal filed by a builder challenging the decision of the Panchayat body on the housing project. 
After the meeting, Sarpanch Rosy Paes told the media that the Rs 81 lakh budget estimates proposed by the Panchayat received a stamp of approval from the gram sabha.
Deputy Sarpanch Simon Barretto said the Panchayat also placed before the gram sabha the annual plan, which amongst other things will lay emphasis on making Curtorim plastic free.
The annual plan also envisages construction of bunds under the PWD or water resources department and hot mixing of roads in the village.
