CUNCOLIM: The worst fears of Cutbona residents came true as Health Department confirmed that the two patients who had been admitted on suspicion of dengue had indeed contracted the disease.
On Tuesday, the Health department sent a team of workers from Balli Primary health centre for fogging. On Wednesday, a team of doctors will visit Cutbona to take stock of the situation and collect blood samples whenever necessary and look at taking action and destroying mosquito breeding sources.
The situation is very sensitive in Cutbona given that two years ago a lady had passed away after contracting dengue and there have been several tense meetings.
Velim Sarpanch Melwyn Sanchez along with the deputy sarpanch were present through the fogging drive and rued that Balli PHC was suffering from a shortage of manpower.
On Monday, when they had called the PHC they were told that there was not enough staff to carry out fogging exercises and the people were left to fend for themselves.
Velim panchayat has often petitioned the Health Department to upgrade the sub-health centre in the area to a rural medical dispensary. The doctor only visits the sub-health centre once a week and Balli is located outside Salcete and the Velim village has a local population of nearly 7000 and a migrant population of nearly 6000.
