PANJIM: Former President of Cutbona fishing jetty Savio D’Silva alleged that the Department of Fisheries has turned deaf ear to their repeated request to open the extended stretch of the fishing jetty. Savio said, “It has been more than 3 years since the extension of this jetty. We have even submitted a representation requesting for its inauguration to the Directorate of fisheries not just once but several times.”
He further alleged that the Director of Fisheries is paying no heed to their multiple representations on the condition of the jetty on the complaints filed about the non-sanctioning of various government schemes including reimbursement of fuel subsidy to the owners of fishing boats. According to him the extended stretch of the jetty is in smeared condition and has been loaded with scrap. The scrap so piled up at this jetty fears give rise to vector-borne diseases due to stagnation of rainwater in the unused and empty scrap vessels, added D’Silva.
