CUNCOLIM: Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado has assured the local fishermen that the proposed fishing jetty extension project at Cutbona will not be a mini harbour but a well-equipped jetty, which will benefit local boat owners.
He also assured locals that work on the proposed jetty project and the construction of a ramp at Musher will start soon. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the proposed fishing boat ramp project at Musher-Betul in the presence of Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, Velim sarpanch Melvin Sanchez, Fisheries Director Shamila Monteiro and others. The ramp is estimated to cost Rs 15 lakh.
Furtado said this ramp project will benefit traditional fishermen to take their small boats for repairs and for maintenance and added that the government will also construct a small jetty for small boat owners at Musher.
Addressing the villagers’ concern and opposition to the proposed satellite port at Betul, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva said that he is also against the project.
