CUNCOLIM: A special general body meeting of the Cutbona Boat Owners Union and Society has authorised its executive committee to defend its legality in the High Court in a proceeding initiated by the former president and some members of the union.
Addressing a press conference, Union President Savio Silva said that a special general body meeting was convened to discuss the petition filed before the High Court of Bombay at Goa challenging the legality of the executive committee of Cutbona Boat Owners Union and Society.
He said that the executive committee placed before the AGM facts and figures and asked for their decision whether to fight the case in the High Court or not.
“The AGM resolved that the present body is legal and those who have gone to the court have done nothing for the welfare of the boat owners. They are jealous of the progress, hence, wanted to harass us by filing false cases,” Silva said.
“We will fight this battle in court and will prove our legality. The union is a registered body, but the previous committee failed to audit its accounts and also failed to renew the registration hence its registration lapsed. Now the same people who committed the mistakes are alleging the present body is illegal. We have done the preliminary process of putting registration issue in order,” Silva said.
