PANJIM: The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has sought a report from Goa Government on the complaint alleging corruption against the then Principal of Goa Police Training School (PTS) by Advocate Aires Rodrigues following the corrupt practice exposed by Herald in July this year.
Atmaram Deshpande, promoted to IPS and posted at Andaman Nicobar Islands as Superintendent of the Anti-Corruption Branch, was facing the corruption charges at Anti-Corruption Branch in Goa for gross irregularities and misappropriation in awarding electrical work and purchases at PTS, Valpoi.
The technical wing of the CVC will also conduct a detailed probe into the corruption allegations against Atmaram Deshpande. Advocate Rodrigues who is following the case against Deshpande at CVC has stated that he had a telephonic conversation today with the Chief Vigilance Commissioner K V Chowdary who has assured a speedy probe and that the guilty would not be spared.
“It is an irony that an officer facing corruption charges has been posted as Superintendent of the Anti-Corruption Branch” Rodrigues said.
Following the report in Herald, the ACB in Goa began dragging its feet after a preliminary inquiry. Noticing ACB’s reluctance as its chief was a batch mate of Deshpande, Rodrigues forwarded the matter to CVC.
In his complaint to the CVC last month, Advocate Rodrigues had alleged that the Vigilance authorities in Goa had been acting as caged parrots in shielding and trying to cover up the illegalities committed by the delinquent officer Atmaram Deshpande.
While seeking an immediate investigation into the rampant corruption by Deshpande, Advocate Rodrigues also sought stringent action against him so that it serves as a deterrent to other officers venturing in such acts of defrauding the State exchequer. Complaint to CVC has also sought a thorough probe into all the assets acquired by Atmaram Deshpande, his kith and kin.
