MARGAO: The Cavelossim Villagers’ Forum (CVF), at the gram sabha, criticised the authorities for failing to stop the work at the disputed Champions’ Club property in Cavellosim.
Alleging that the authorities were turning a blind eye to the developments, CVF stated that it had already filed a complaint with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the matter will come up for hearing shortly. The panchayat officials said that they would take legal advise on the matter.
It maybe recalled that earlier this year, the NGT ordered the demolition of Champions Club hotel in Cavelossim for violating CRZ norms.
The pancahyat also formed its biodiversity committee and has decided to write to the government to expedite work on the beach access routes.
The gram sabha also witnessed a heated argument between CVF president Iris Passanha and former sarpanch and present panch Edwin Barreto.
Passanha had criticised the panchayat for carrying out developmental activities that violated CRZ norms and other rules and claimed that such activites had taken place during during Barreto tenure. He demanded that the panchayat check with the authorities regarding the illegalities and take action accordingly.
Meanwhile, Barreto refuted the allegations levelled against him. He also warned that Cavelossim could get affected by a blanket ban on CRZ and spoke about how the village was bound by riverside and seaside CRZ regulations.
