On Thursday, Sripad Naik was taken into custody by Cyber Crime Police Goa on suspicion of cyberbullying a young female student from Porvorim. The victim was subjected to sexual harassment by the accused, who also threatened to expose her explicit photos and videos that he had obtained using the Snapchat app.
On January 02, 23 in the evening, Cyber Crime Police Goa broke into a Snapchat ID, tracked down the accused using that ID, and took one Mr. Sripad Naik into custody.
Previous to this, on January 31, 2024, at 23:29 hours, the Cyber Crime Police Station registered an offence under the following Cr. No. 05/2024 U/s 354-A (iv) IPC, Sec. 67-A of the IT Act, and 11(2)(4)(5) r/w 12 of the POCSO Act. This was in response to a complaint from a female student at a reputable college in the capital city, stating that between June 20, 2022, and January 31, 2024, at TNK in Porvorim, Bardez, Goa, the accused person, who went by the Snapchat ID Shripad and four other IDs, became friends with the complainant when she was a minor and, once they were close, coerced her into sharing her offensive and nude photos and videos via mobile sources, causing further harassment and threatening to circulate the same via electronic means if the complainant did not consent to a sexual act.
The case is currently in the process of investigation under cybercrime Investigation Officer, Shri Satish Padwalkar, PI Cyber Police Goa. The Cyber Police have noticed that some young girls attending school and college have been known to show their partners explicit and naked photos and videos while they are in a relationship. Likewise Following breakups, boyfriends use the given content to threaten their ex-girlfriends. Parents are warned not to share any such photos and to keep a watchful eye on their children, especially young girls.
