MARGAO: In a cybercrime reported in Margao, a resident of Pajifond was cheated of Rs 50,000 by an Iraqi woman.
In her complaint, the victim — Deepa Colcao, a resident of Pajifond, stated that she was approached via Facebook by a woman named Celina Gonzalez, who told her that she works for the Iraq Army.
She further stated that the woman then told her that she has a suitcase stashed with money and wants to hand it over to victim. Via her FB account, Celina asked Deepa woman to deposit Rs 25,000 first and Rs 24,900 later.
The Facebook account mentioned that this money was to complete some procedure and so she sent the money. The victim later realised that she has been cheated and filed a complaint with the Margao Town Police Station.
The police have registered a cheating offence and are investigating the matter.
