PANJIM: Admitting that the cyclone has caused major damage in both the districts, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the families of the two persons, who died in the cyclone-related incidents, those persons injured in the cyclone and the families, who suffered damage to their houses and vehicles, will be paid compensation under the Disaster Management for which funds will be released within eight days.
Major damage has been reported in Bardez followed by Mormugao. Most parts of the State were without electricity and many roads continued to remain blocked. Briefing the media persons, The CM said it will take two days to restore things as heavy rains and high winds are expected to continue in the State till May 17.
“Interrupted power is reported in some parts since last night. Entire electricity Department is on the job to restore power supply,” he further said urging the people to cooperate with the authorities.
The local bodies have also been put on the job to ensure smooth functioning and cause no inconvenience to the public.
With one team of National Disaster Response Force already in Goa, the state government has sought help from the Indian Navy and other forces whenever needed.
As stormy weather continued all through the day and night, the State has decided to prioritise clearing the main roads where several trees fell, obstructing the movement of traffic.
“These roads are used to transport COVID patients to hospitals. We will prioritise clearing the main roads after which internal roads will be cleared of debris,” Sawant said.
Sattari, Tiswadi, Pernem, Bardez, Sanguem, Dharbandora, Canacona, Ponda, Salcete and Mormugao are among the worst affected talukas due to the cyclone.
