Cyclone ‘Maha’ 450 km away from Goa coast

Thundershowers and gusty winds likely today

PANJIM: No specific weather warning has been issued for Goa as the cyclone ‘Maha’ centres almost 450 km away from the coast. 
IMD Goa has however, predicted thunder showers accompanied with lightning and gusty winds for Friday. Fishermen are also advised not to venture into sea during next 24-hours. 
There is no weather warning issued from November 2 to 4. 
“Centre of the system is approximately 450 km away from Goa. Due to the movement of cyclone ‘Maha’ in the north-northwest direction, special distribution of rainfall over Goa is likely to increase. Thunder shower accompanied with lightning and gusty winds very likely at isolated places,” IMD Goa said. 
It has said that strong winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph along south Maharashtra-Goa coast during next 24 hours. Fishermen are advised not to venture along and off south Maharashtra- Goa coast during the above period.
The month of October ended with 246 per cent surplus rains with IMD recording 540.9mm of rainfall. October 25 was the wettest day with State witnessing nearly 110mm rainfall.
