The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Cyclonic Storm ‘Midhili’ is expected to cross the Bangladesh coast near Khepupara on Friday night or early Saturday. While posing minimal threat to India’s coastal states, heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for coastal districts in Odisha, West Bengal, and the North Eastern states on Friday.
Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea during this cyclonic period. The storm is currently centred approximately 190 km east of Paradip (Odisha), 200 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), and 220 km southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
Anticipated heavy rainfall on Friday for coastal regions of West Bengal, Odisha, and the North East has prompted alerts. Authorities in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district issued warnings about Cyclone Midhili’s approach. Increased vigilance and preparedness measures have been put in place, particularly in the popular coastal town of Digha, where rescue teams are on standby to handle potential emergency situations.
