CANDOLIM: Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) awareness programme was held at Our Lady of Hope Church Hall, Candolim on Saturday.
The key speakers tried to explain to the gathering the need to make their own CRZ plan before a destructive one is made by others who have no knowledge of the area.
It was well attended by the fishermen, shack owners, guest house owners, restaurant owners and various other business operators as well as the residents.
Speaking on the legal aspect of CZMP, Goa Foundation Founder Dr Claude Alvares said, “The earlier CZMP approved for Goa in 1996, should be used to compare with these new plans. There is a need to make the plans locally and only by Goans.”
Social activist Avinash Tavares spoke on the importance of CRZ and need to follow rules to have a balanced sustainable future.
Goencho Avaaz Co-convener Capt Viriato Fernandes said that while preparing these plans they have not consulted the stakeholders.
