VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Saturday reiterated that the Dabolim international airport will continue for civilian operations and allayed apprehensions of it closing down.
Godinho was speaking after inaugurating the second railway overbridge flyover outside the Dabolim airport.
Godinho said that the Government of India has invested its money to upgrade the Dabolim airport so as to continue its operations. He said that additional Rs 250 crores are being spent by Union government to construct two new aerobridges to park flights at Dabolim.
He informed that the old administrative building of the Dabolim airport will be demolished and will be relocated to other side which will also have two additional aerobridges. He said that new flyover will ease the traffic to a great extent. The ongoing additional infrastructure works inside the airport and outside reflects that Dabolim airport will surely continue its operations.
He inaugurated the second railway overbridge flyover just outside the Dabolim airport built at an estimated cost of Rs 16 crore. The previous bridge was built at the cost of Rs nine crore. The SWR has also started the work of constructing new parallel railway overbridge at Shantinagar, Vasco at an estimated cost of Rs 18 crore. This overbridge will be built within next eight months. Godinho also pointed to the grade separator at Dabolim.
