PANJIM: Aldona Congress MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira on Monday said that the Dabolim Airport will suffer a slow death with many airlines shifting to the Mopa International Airport.
He also alleged sinister plans of the BJP government in naming the new airport and demanded full name to the airport.
Speaking to reporters at the Congress House, here, Adv Ferreira said that the Sawant government is fooling people of Goa by saying that Dabolim Airport will continue to operate in future.
He said that Dabolim Airport will become unviable the moment Mopa Airport will start operating in full capacity and the government will not officially close Dabolim Airport but it will die a slow death. Once airlines shift their cargo hub to Mopa Airport, there is no reason why they will operate from Dabolim Airport, he added.
He said that the truth will come when Mopa International Airport will be fully operational.
Alleging sinister plans of the BJP government in naming the new airport as Manohar International Airport, he said, “After destroying the legacy of Manohar Parrikar, the BJP now claims that the new airport is been given the name in honour of late Parrikar. Why BJP is scared to name it as Manohar Parrikar International Airport. In France you have Charles de Gaulle Airport. You have John F Kennedy International Airport in New York. It’s not simply John. If you want to name airport and give respect to a person, you need to give the name correctly so that the world will know that you are respecting and honouring a particular individual.”
