VASCO: The students of the Keshav Smriti Higher Secondary School, Dabolim on Wednesday staged a protest demanding immediate revocation of suspension of the Principal Shankar Gaonkar.
The students holding placards marched on the roads demanding justice for the school and the principal. They claimed that the school was not responsible for the programme held in a nearby mosque and that no one was forced to follow Muslim rituals there. Students said that they attended the same and wore duppatta over their heads willingly without any pressure from the school or its principal and staff teachers, who had accompanied them.
The protesters said that the Principal Shankar Gaonkar has been suspended only because some activists from right wing organisation confronted the school management without verifying the facts.
The students were invited by the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIOI) on Saturday and the photographs of girls wearing dupatta went viral on social media two days later.
