MARGAO: Reacting to Aerofloat Airlines’ decision to relocate its operations to Mopa International Airport, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao criticised the BJP Government for allegedly favouring private operators over public sector undertakings.
Yuri Alemao, in response to Aerofloat’s decision to shift operations from Dabolim to Mopa, has framed it as a potential act of retaliation for electoral defeats in the Lok Sabha.
He accuses the BJP-led government of insensitivity towards South Goa, predicting dire consequences for Dabolim Airport’s future and the economy of the region. Alemao’s statement questions Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s commitment, challenging whether he will take substantive action or merely offer rhetoric in response to these developments.
“I demand that the Chief Minister immediately convene a meeting of all elected MLAs and Members of Parliament from South Goa, along with relevant authorities and stakeholders. Following this, a delegation should be led to the Prime Minister of India to secure the continuation of Dabolim International Airport,” stated Yuri.
He said that he had raised the alarm in 2022 that Dabolim Airport will turn into a ghost airport if the Government does not take proactive steps to continue its operations. Unfortunately, the Government did nothing and remained a mute spectator of Airlines shifting one after the other.
“I had alerted the Government after Qatar Airways had announced shifting of its operations to Mopa and warned that slowly all airlines will shift to Mopa. It looks like I will be proved right soon,”said Yuri.
The BJP Government is deliberately ignoring the damage done to Dabolim Airport due to BJP’s weak base in South Goa. They want South Goa to suffer because people of South Goa do not support BJP’s policies and agenda, he stated further.
