VASCO: In a daring dacoity, a naval couple was robbed of cash and gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees after they were tied up in their house during the wee hours of Tuesday.
The dacoits even threatened to kill the couple and locked them in the room till morning.
According to Vasco Police Inspector Nolosco Raposo, Avdesh Sharma, an officer serving in Indian Navy, lodged a complaint that some seven dacoits armed with deadly weapons including knife, metal rods and wooden sticks entered his premises and looted cash and gold all worth Rs 5.75 lakh.
“Complaint and his wife have been staying in a rented flat located on the first floor owned by one Shaikh Altaf. At around 3 am on Tuesday, the naval officer woke up hearing some sound. When he went out of his bedroom to check, he found dacoits armed with deadly weapons inside his house. The dacoits later tied up the officer’s legs and forced the couple to handover gold ornaments and cash. The officer’s wife requested the dacoits not to harm them and take away whatever they want. So, the dacoits locked the couple inside their bedroom and looted diamond ring, gold ornaments and cash all worth Rs 5.75 lakhs,” Raposo said.
Later in the morning, Sharma lodge a police complaint, after which the police visited the site. Police informed that the culprits broke open the window grill to gain access inside the house.
Vasco police requisitioned a dog squad and finger print experts to the site. Police have also obtained CCTV footage in which culprits’ entry into the bungalow premises is captured. A case under section 395 of IPC has been registered and efforts are on trace the culprits.
