MARGAO: The Goa unit of Dakshinayan Abhiyan has condemned the statement of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant who demanded that the people like Ramkrishna Jalmi be banished from the village.

“The social banishment call given by Dr Sawant is unwarranted and not befitting the position of the chief minister,” the Dakshinayan Abhiyan said.

The Dakshinayan Abhiyan says that Jalmi, in his speech, had made certain references to Lord Parshurama to which certain sections have raised objection. The myth that a Brahmin sage Parshurama had massacred the Kshatriyas 21 times to free the world of this warrior race stands challenged, condemned and argued for centuries.

“However, we believe that Jalmi is entitled to his views as much as his opponents to theirs. Whether his remarks attract hatred among the people is for the police and the judiciary to judge,” Dakshinayan Abhiyan said.

“The over reaction of the Chief Minister who holds the education portfolio in directing the school where Jalmi works as a lab assistant is opposed to all canons of service jurisprudence. It was for the school to take action if any after seeking the Education Director’s approval and not the other way round,” pointed out Dakshinayan Abhiyan.

The Dakshiyanan Abhiyan has strongly condemned the vindictive attitude of the State government which has taken up the issue only as a part of their Zilla Panchayat elections campaign so as to build a fervor around the Hindutva.
