PONDA: BJP backed councillor Vishwanth Dalvi was elected unopposed as the chairperson of Ponda Municipal Council, on Friday.
The election for the PMC chairperson’s post which was fallen vacant after the resignation of former chairperson Venkatesh Naik was officially held in the PMC hall. The election officials declared Vishwanth elected unopposed after his single nomination was filed for the post. His name was proposed by Ritesh Naik.
Newly elected Chairperson Vishwanath while addressing to the media persons said that his priorities is to complete the work on the pending projects such as Ponda Market Complex, PMC Golden Jubilee Project and to set up garbage treatment plant at Kerya-Khandepar.
He said, “The work on the Ponda Market Complex is pending since very long time and his priority is to complete the work on this project. After completion of the work, the vendors doing business at the temporary shed, will be shifted at the market complex. He also said that the work on the pending golden jubilee building of PMC will be completed through the cooperation of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik.
“Irrespective of the councillors belonging to any political party the development of all wards will be undertaken,” he added. “The garbage treatment plant at Kerya-Khandepar would be constructed through MPLAD Scheme to treat the garbage from the PMC jurisdiction,” he said.
