CANACONA: Two houses and a cowshed were damaged, while several trees uprooted following strong winds and heavy rains that lashed Canacona taluka on Thursday night.
Many residential areas had to remain without power supply, as many trees fell on electricity lines. Fire services personnel were on their toes throughout Thursday night, as attended to a number of calls.
According to fire services, a tree came crashing down on an electricity pole at Devabhag, disrupting power supply in the area and beyond. Another tree fell on an electricity pole at Talpona-Galgibaga, while yet another tree blocked a road at Chapoli.
Fire fighters also cleared trees that blocked the roads at Marlim-Cotigao, Partagali, and KTC bus stand at Chaudi.
Fire sources have pegged the losses at Rs 1.60 lakh, which included a cattle pound at Amone, the gate of a factory at Bhatpal, a house at Gaunem-Gaondongrim and at Ziltawadi-Cotigao.
