Damu demands House dissolution

MARGAO, DEC 31
Launching a scathing attack on the Digambar Kamat government for the spate of burglaries and crimes, BJP spokesman and Fatorda MLA Damu Naik said the government should go for dissolution of the Assembly and fresh elections to secure fresh mandate of the people.
Speaking after distributing cheques to motorcycle pilots and gadda traders here on Friday, Naik blamed the entire government for the temple thefts, burglaries and the goondari at the Moti Dongor.
“I do not want to single out the Chief Minister or any other minister for the sorry state of affairs. The entire government is responsible for the mess. The government should go for dissolution of the Assembly and seek mandate of the people”, he demanded.
He said that political interference is responsible for the dismal record on the law and order front and demanded dissolution of the Assembly.
Referring to the spate of thefts in the commercial capital, Naik said ‘just imagine that thieves had the audacity to run away with a bag containing valuables from a Church and the shocking incident of a woman being relieved of ornaments while on an early morning walk”. “What does this show? The government is responsible”, he questioned the sorry affairs on political interference in the police administration.
On gang war and violence raising its ugly head atop Moti Dongor, the BJP spokesman said the time has come for Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to take firm steps to ensure law and order atop the hillock.
“We are observing 50 years of Goa’s Liberation and we have now seen rising temple burglaries, chain and bag snatching on the rise, besides attack on women and children”, he said and reminded that it is the responsibility of the government in power to put things in order.
Replying to a question, Naik admitted that the Chief Minister should take responsibility for the happenings on Moti Dongor and called for restructuring of the mechanism if officials are found wanting in discharging their duties.
On the temple burglaries, Naik said that the BJP did not give an emotional touch to the issue by exploiting the sentiments of the public.
“But, things have turned from bad to worse. The number of temple burglaries has touched 61. This has become a routine phenomenon. The BJP has displayed patience by not coming on the streets because of the intervening Christmas and New Year festivities”, he said and warned that the party will not sit quite if things does not fall in place.
