Margao: Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, had its first annual general meeting after the reconstitution of the new governing council. The Chairman, Damu Naik came down heavily over the criticism made by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson, Durgadas Kamat that the council of Ravindra Bhavan is corrupt. Naik criticised the Finance department for moving a note which is contradictory to the constitution of the Ravindra Bhavan. He also said that the constitution of Grantee Institutions itself is getting increasingly outdated and needs to be amended.
While taking a dig at Kamat, Naik said, “He has been trained in my compound and is now unfaithfully shouting at us. He has been provoked by someone.” Naik added that the grants given by the Ravindra Bhavan are to artists who trained there or who are from Salcete and are performing in other parts of the State. The grant given is mostly miscellaneous and not large. Refuting allegations of spending large amounts of money, the chairman said, “If Ravindra Bhavan has spent a lot of money, then the GPCC should prove it with evidence and not try to gain cheap publicity.”
While speaking about infra works at the Ravindra Bhavan, Naik also informed that the governing council resolved to write to the Art and Culture department on the issues of the lacklustre attitude of the PWD to maintain the huge asset. He also suggested that the Art and Culture department handover the maintenance responsibility to GSIDC as they are more responsive than the PWD.
