MARGAO: The Damu Naik headed Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti will hold the annual float parade in the Commercial Capital on April 7.
Addressing the media on Monday in the presence of Samiti Secretary Sharmad Raiturcar and other office bearers, Damu said the shigmo yatra will be flagged-off near the entrance of the shigmo route at the Holy Spirit square.
“We have invited cultural team from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, besides Goa to perform folk art along the traditional shigmo route under the Udaipur Kendra”, Naik said, adding that the traditional Suvari Vadan group in their traditional dress and instruments will be played, followed by special prayer at 2:30 pm.
Saying that the samiti is celebrating 25 years of its shigmo festivity, he said it has planned various cultural, educational, social programs, etc from April 3 to 6 in and around Margao.
The inaugural ceremony of the shigmo festivities will be held on April 3 at 5:30 pm, which will be inaugurated at the hands of North Goa MP Sripad Naik.
He said the Tourism department has entrusted the samiti with organising the shigmo float parade, adding that the committee has obtained all required permissions from the district Collector, police department, Margao Municipal Council and the Fire Services.
