Danvoddem nullah chocked with chicken waste, raw sewage

MARGAO: Dumping of chicken waste and raw sewage into the nullah at Davonddem, Fatorda has created a stink in

the locality. Worse still, the nullah wends its way into the already polluted River Sal. Locals have demanded that authorities concerned to step in and initiate measures to stop the nuisance here.

A visit at the site revealed that the nullah was choked with bags full of chicken waste, the flow of water was blocked and the stink was unbearable. Locals stated that unknown chicken vendors were dumping waste here under the cover of darkness.

“The area has become a health hazard. There are several people residing in the vicinity of the nullah and complained that the stink was unbearable mostly at nights,”, said John Costa, a local resident. He further informed that the nullah has been recently repaired but presently it has become a garbage dumping ground to many.

Krishna Naik, a commuter, told O Heraldo that the authorities

need to take the issue seriously as it was polluting River Sal.

“The authorities need to keep vigil on such sites. Nullahs are meant for flow of water and not for dumping waste and release of sewage water. People have become so insensitive that they don’t care about the damage to the environment,” he stated.

He further demanded that dumping of waste inside the nullah clearly shows that there is no proper check on the waste generated by the chicken vendors.

It is pertinent to note that the water from the Bhakti Tollem at Nuvem was heavily polluted due to the release of sewage water inside it, which is now noticed flowing through the Nallah at Davonddem towards River Sal.
