Daring daylight burglary at Khandola

PONDA: In a daring daylight burglary reported at Tamsule-Khandola, Marcela, unknown persons targeted a bungalow of a retired government teacher 71-year-old Vinayak Datta Naik and decamped with jewellery worth Rs 13 lakh.
According to Ponda Police, the thieves effected entry by breaking open the kitchen window grills. They later ransacked the cupboards, broke open the safe and decamped with jewellery. 
The owner in his complaint stated that the thieves decamped with his wife’s jewellery worth around Rs 2 lakh and his daughter-in-law was robbed of her valuables including mangalsutras and other ornaments worth Rs 11 lakh.
It is learnt that owner’s wife and his daughter-in-law had recently removed the jewellery from bank’s lockers for a family function. 
The police suspect the burglary to be planned one as the thieves before committing the crime disconnected CCTV connection and decamped with the cameras.
The crime was committed between 10 am and 12 noon when all the family members were out. 
According to the family members, the thieves after entering the first floor through kitchen later broke open the door on first floor using iron rods and ransacked four cupboards and decamped with the valuables.
At the time of incident, the owner’s wife, who is a banker, had proceeded for work, the while son and his wife too were at their respective workplaces. 
The owner Vinayak Naik at around 10 am had gone shopping to Marcel Bazaar. On his return, he was shocked to find that his bungalow was burgled with the jewellery missing from the cupboards. 
Ponda Police have registered a case under Sections 454 and 380 of IPC against unknown persons
Meanwhile, with rising theft cases, the residents have demanded police patrolling in Marcel and Khandola. Few days ago, a theft was reported at a shop wherein mobile phones and accessories worth Rs 5 lakh were stolen. Recently, a woman was robbed of chain by bike-ridden men at Devalay, Khandola.
