Date for filing financial statements before Lokayukta to be extended

PANJIM: With several public functionaries, including the Chief Minister and Ministers, figuring in the list of defaulters who failed to file their financial statement before the ombudsman, the State Cabinet on Wednesday accorded its approval to amend the Goa Lokayukta Act, extending the time-frame for filing the annual statements of assets and liabilities from June 30 to November 5. 
The amendment will be introduced during the monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly, beginning July 19. The government is of the view that it is not possible to file the financial details by June 30. 
Speaking to media person’s post cabinet meeting, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai said the cabinet has approved an amendment to the section 21 and sub-section I of the Goa Lokayukta Act. 
The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, also approved to introduce Goa State Higher Education Council Bill in line with the Central Act. It also accorded approval to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report ending March 31, 2018 to be placed on the Floor of the House.
