MARGAO: During the gram sabha meeting on Sunday, the village panchayat of Davorlim-Dicarpale passed significant resolutions to address pressing issues in the jurisdiction. One of the key decisions was to offer support for an inquiry by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) into illegal construction activities on the Comunidade land within the panchayat area. The matter gained prominence after Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar raised it in the ongoing Assembly session.
To tackle the issue of renting rooms to migrants, the panchayat adopted a stern stance by resolving to disconnect water and electricity supply to those owners who fail to provide complete details of the individuals renting their rooms. The objective is to ensure better monitoring and control over migrants residing in the village.
Sarpanch Herculano Niasso chaired the gram sabha and expressed the panchayat’s determination to fully support the inquiry into illegal constructions on Comunidade land. Emphasising the importance of safeguarding Comunidade land for genuine Goan residents, he stressed that it should not be sold to outsiders.
Additionally, the panchayat raised concerns about scrap yards causing disturbances in the village and decided to take measures to get rid of them.
Speaking about the resolution on room renting, Sarpanch Niasso urged the police to cooperate with the panchayat during tenant verification. The Gramsabha members were also encouraged to conduct tenant verification in their respective wards to ensure close monitoring of migrant residents.
During the meeting, local farmers also raised the issue of sewage and wastewater being discharged into the paddy fields within the panchayat jurisdiction.
