MARGAO: The Davorlim-Dicarpale panchayat began their tenant verification exercise in the wards under their jurisdiction on Monday.
Sarpanch Santosh Naik, who was accompanied by some panchas and the police, visited the houses to inform the owners about the tenant verification exercise process and urged them to get the forms filled up and that the tenants produce their respective identity documents.
The police personnel were also present to verify details about the tenants.
Naik said that this was one of the issues he had taken up on priority since he had become the Sarpanch.
Naik said that such an exercise is important as it not only provides the police with the requisite information but that the panchayat is also aware of such matters. He was confident that this would help prevent law and order situations from occurring in the village.
The panchas also pointed out that this was the demand of consecutive gram sabha meetings and that it was required to instil a sense of security amongst the villagers. They said that there has been fear amongst residents over the rise in crimes.
They further pointed out that given that their 11-ward strong panchayat covers a vast area, cooperation from the owners and tenants is required to make this exercise a success.
