MARGAO: Tempers flared at the Davorlim-Dicarpale gram sabha, when locals clashed with the Sarpanch and his supporters over the petrol pump project proposed in the village. Sarpanch Herculano Niasso presided over the gram sabha.

The issue of the petrol pump led to heated discussions and even a confrontation between a section of the locals who are opposing the facility, and the Sarpanch’s group.

The Sarpanch informed the members that only a provisional and temporary NOC had been given. “ In view of the concerns the locals have raised about the petrol pump, the petrol pump owners have been asked to comply with certain conditions,’ said Niasso. The Sarpanch also emphasized that the final NOC had not been given.

However, a section of locals objected to the petrol pump and wanted the temporary NOC to be revoked as well.

At the meeting, the annual budget of the village panchayat was passed, with special emphasis and provisions for the welfare and convenience of senior citizens in the village. Elsewhere, the Sarpanch stated that the panchayat has sped up the process of setting up the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed in the village.

He said that a work order has also been issued and the funds for the same had been obtained from the 14th Finance Commission grants.
