Davorlim locals protest over illegal parking

Residents of Davorlim on Sunday took to the streets on Sunday morning to protest against the inaction by the Margao Traffic authorities to the illegal parking at the Aquem Power House traffic junction.
A fire tender rushed to the spot after the agitators set afire a rubber tyre and threatened to block traffic on the busy junction.
Margao PSI Suraj Gawas along with a posse of policemen rushed to the spot to avert any law and order problem. The protestors led by Anand Sawant and others, however, charged the police for meting out harassment to them though they were fighting for a genuine cause.
They demanded to know why the police did not issue threats to the market traders when the latter blocked the road at the pick-up stand last week.
The situation was brought under control after Margao Police station incharge, PI Santosh Desai spoke to one of the protestors and promised to solve their long pending demand of no parking for trucks at the Power House junction.
PI Desai has invited a delegation of the villagers to his office on Monday to discuss the issue and work out a lasting solution.
It is learnt that PI Desai has promised to provide no parking sign boards even though the matter falls in the domain of the Traffic department.
What brought the protestors on the streets was the failure of the Margao Traffic cell to respond to an official note of the Additional District Collector, South Prasanna Acharya to study the issue and suggest a lasting solution.
