It is to be noted that the collectorate had rejected the panchayat’s request for the land that was proposed to treat the village waste and when the sarpanch informed the gram sabha members, they resolved that the panchayat must make a forceful plea to the collector and press for the allocation of 5,000 square meters land out of the 1.5 lakh square meters acquired by the government.
Taking strong objection to the collectrate’s decision to reject the panchayat’s earlier request, members pointed out that the acquired land in question belonged to the villagers and demanded that the panchayat again write to the collector for the required land. Agitated members demanded to know how the authorities expected the panchayat to solve the garbage imbroglio if the village cannot use its own land for segregation and treatment.
On a different issue, Avertano informed the villagers and farmers that a road over bridge (ROB) has been proposed at the Davorlim railway crossing. The MLA reassured the farmers that all those affected by the land acquisition would be adequately compensated.
